Celebrating Success: Sewing Seeds Fashion Show

Our friends at Lift for Life Academy hosted their 3rd Annual Celebrating Success: Sewing Seeds Fashion Show last Saturday, May 11th at the beautiful Windows on Washington in St. Louis, Missouri.

This charitable event gives the students from Lift for Life Academy’s Fashion Design class, taught by the lovely Laura Kathleen Planck of “Project Runway,” the opportunity to showcase their talent as emerging designers.  Glik’s had participated in the past by donating shoes to previous shows. This year we had so much faith in the talented students of Lift for Life that we wanted to–not only– donate shoes (again), but we wanted to sponsor this amazing event too!

We would like to congratulate the talented students on their brilliant designs, Laura Kathleen Planck for all of her hard work in helping dreams become reality, and Lift for Life Academy for being a wonderful institution who’s unwavering purpose is to make a substantial difference in its students lives!

Here are a few of our favorite photos from the Celebrating Success: Sewing Seeds Fashion Show.

TOMS + Glik’s One Day Without Shoes 2013

For the past 3 years Glik’s has celebrated TOMS One Day Without Shoes under the St. Louis, Missouri Arch. The whole Home Office shed their shoes and walked the Arch grounds barefoot. One Day Without Shoes is a special day that Glik’s helps TOMS raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. This day is for spreading the ONE FOR ONE message!

We set up outdoor activities, played games, made crafts, shared IMO’s pizza, and passed out goody bags to the public. If you don’t already know, the Midwest weather is fickle and can never decide what climate to relax in. The first two years were bright and sunny, the public was out in the masses enjoying the warmth. Our feet were lucky. Yes, we were barefoot, but we still had the luxury of warmth and soft soil.

It was bound to happen sometime, so why not this year… IMG_5209

Rain. Cold rain. Lots of it.

But we were not alone. Some of our Northern locations had snow.

No complaints, though! Despite the wet and cold, we had fun in our bare feet! Here are a few of our favorite photos from TOMS One Day Without Shoes 2013…

Event Recap: The Red Bull Floating Skatepark visits STL!

The Red Bull Mississippi Grind visited Downtown St. Louis (via a GIANT 195-foot Barge) this past weekend! We couldn’t wait to watch five amazing pro skaters in action! The demo featured Luis Tolentino, Joey Brezinksi, Ronnie Creager and Kenny Anderson, along with a few small-town skaters.

The Floating Skatepark will make four stops on its 28 day adventure departing in Twin Cities and continuing on to Davenport, St. Louis, and finally New Orleans. Each stop will be jam-packed with extreme skate demos from world-class Red Bull and Converse athletes.

Some of the athletes in action on the barge!

Renowned skate park builders Spohn Ranch & Mark Leski developed the innovative course, which includes a hubba ledge, and a double stair set.

Well known for its skateboarding culture, New Orleans was chosen as the final stop in the Floating Skatepark tour. A three day celebration beginning October 7th and concluding October 9th will be held in downtown New Orleans.

The closing ceremony will be dedicated to Red Bull’s donation of the massive skate structure to the City of New Orleans! So exciting!

SUP-porting the Mississippi

Alex Linnell began his awesome journey June 1, 2011 on Lake Itasca in Minnesota. Almost two months later he is still pursuing his goal of becoming the first person to SUP (Stand-Up Paddle) the entire length of the Mississippi River.  The measured distance of the Mississippi is near 2,300 miles long and the current SUP record is held by Tom Jones, who traveled 1,507 miles. Alex has paired up with the American Red Cross to help local flood victims in cities along his journey.

Alex has made it through several areas near Glik’s locations and we think its cool he stopped by the St. Louis Arch to celebrate his half-way mark! Glik’s originated in the St. Louis area, and our headquarters is located about 20 minutes from downtown.  We here at Glik’s are routing this innovative athlete on!
